Posts in social network cause check of Volgograd teacher on discrediting Russian Army

Policemen came home with a check to Roman Melnichenko, a former teacher of the Volgograd State University (VolSU). The reason was in his posts in a social network, in particular, video clips in the Ukrainian language.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 23, 2022, the Sovietsky District Court of Volgograd refused to reinstate Melnichenko at work at the VolSU. The Volgograd Regional Court upheld the ruling.

After his posts about the events in Ukraine, the prosecutor's office accused Melnichenko of spreading fakes, and university lawyers saw signs of agitation among students in his actions. On April 19, it became known that Melnichenko was fired from the university for absenteeism and immoral behaviour. He saw political motives in the dismissal and decided to appeal against the rector's order. On June 7, 2022, the court imposed a fine of 30,000 roubles on Melnichenko, finding him guilty of disseminating false information in his posts about Ukraine.

Criminal investigators came to Roman Melnichenko's home as part of a check under the administrative article about discrediting the Russian Army. They showed printouts of several posts placed in Melnichenko's group and asked about the use of the words "prisoners of war", as well as the reason for recording some of his video clips in Ukrainian. According to his story, he had warned the policemen about the responsibility for the pressure on him for using his mother tongue – the Ukrainian language, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports.
