Zarema Musaeva hopes for Supreme Court

Zarema Musaeva, convicted in the case of attacking a law enforcer, has stated that she hopes for the Russian Supreme Court (SC), from which she expects a positive decision on her complaint against the court verdict passed in Grozny, the "Novaya Gazeta" outlet has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4, the Akhmatovsky District Court of Grozny sentenced Musaeva to 5.5 years in prison.

"I'm waiting for the next trial and hope for the best," the "Novaya Gazeta" has quoted Musaeva as saying.

Zarema, who is Judge Yangulbaev's wife, has added that she receives letters of support from people and these letters give her strength and hope for the best.

She said that she is in good health, and believes that people who commit lawlessness should be forgiven and not fall to their level of evil. She has also shared that prayers calm her down at the SIZO (pre-trial prison).

Earlier, Musaeva's defence stated that she needed a full medical examination. On June 5, it became known that she could not move independently and she was hospitalized.

On July 16, Alexander Savin, Zarema's advocate, said that during her state at the SIZO, her health condition has deteriorated significantly.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4, in Chechnya, when the court in Grozny was to pass a sentence on Musaeva, Elena Milashina, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta", and Alexander Nemov, one of Musaeva's advocates, were beaten up by masked armed men.
