Because of water and power outages, Makhachkala townspeople block the street
Residents of the "Nauchny Gorodok" (Scientific Settlement) micro-district in Makhachkala have blocked motor traffic along Akushinsky Avenue, demanding from authorities and power engineers to solve the long-term problem with the supply of water and electricity to their homes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since August 9, Makhachkala townspeople have blocked highways at least four times in protest against power outages. Thus, on August 17, protests were held in Akushinsky Avenue and in Semender; on August 16, local residents blocked Gamidov Avenue; and on August 15, residents of the Reduktorny settlement tried to block the road. On August 9, residents of Makhachkala blocked Magomed Gadjiev Street. On August 18, Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, treated the deterioration of power grids in the republic as unthinkable; he turned to federal authorities for help in solving this problem and urged republic residents not to block highways.
In their turn, Dagestani activists have stated that Makhachkala townspeople should fight more actively for their rights through lodging official complaints about power outages.
On August 18, residents of the above "Nauchny Gorodok" micro-district blocked motor traffic along Akushinsky Avenue. The protesters explained that they had no water and electricity for days, the "Novoye Delo" (New Cause) outlet has reported.
On June 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Derbent, and at a meeting with him, Sergey Melikov treated the poor infrastructure as the main problem of Dagestan.
