Picketer with poster in support of Zhuravel detained in Saint Petersburg

Law enforcers have detained Dmitry Kuzmin, who went out to a picket demanding the release of Nikita Zhuravel, who was beaten by Kadyrov's son at the Grozny SIZO (pre-trial prison).

On September 26, in Saint Petersburg, policemen detained Alexander Sidelev, who also went out to a picket with a poster in support of Nikita Zhuravel.

On September 25, Ramzan Kadyrov published a video showing how his son, Adam Kadyrov, was beating up Nikita Zhuravel, who was arrested in Grozny in connection with the burning of the Koran, and praised his son for doing this. Marina Akhmedova and Eva Merkacheva, members of the Human Rights Council, were outraged by Adam's crime and his father's post; and Tatiana Moskalkova, the Russian Ombudsperson, called for compliance with the law in the treatment of those arrested.

Now, in Saint Petersburg, law enforcers have detained Dmitry Kuzmin, 18, who went out to a solo picket in defence of Zhuravel, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has reported.

His poster, next to the accusation against the head of Chechnya, listed the names of those killed: Anna Politkovskaya, a journalist; Natalia Estemirova, a human rights defender; Boris Nemtsov, a politician; Zelimkhan Bakaev, a Chechen singer; and Salman Tepsurkaev, an activist.
