Jewish communities of North-Caucasian republics respond to threats from “Hamas”
In Makhachkala and Kizlyar, the Jewish communities have cancelled a number of events because of threats from Palestinian militants. In Nalchik, the synagogue has not changed the schedule of its events, while the public Jewish cultural and educational organization “Sholom” in North Ossetia has enhanced security measures.
Centres of Jewish communities in several regions of the Southern Federal District (SFD) and the Stavropol Territory are placed under tight security due to the Palestinian “Hamas” movement’s call for pogroms. The Jewish community in Maikop has cancelled all events.
On October 12, the National Security Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Israel warned that the leaders of the Palestinian “Hamas” movement called on its supporters around the world to hold a “Day of Wrath” on October 13 and attack Israelis and Jews.
The police have enhanced security measures, reports the synagogue in Makhachkala.
In Kizlyar, the small Jewish community has not addressed the police, but cancelled all events.
In Nalchik, the “Nimaz Nalchik” synagogue will hold all events without any changes.
In North Ossetia, the regional public Jewish cultural and educational organization “Sholom” has taken security measures, but expressed the hope that they will not be required. However, according to Anatoly Kharin, the deputy chair of the regional public Jewish cultural and educational organization “Sholom” in North Ossetia, they thought how they would act if necessary.
