In Dagestan, synagogues taken under police protection after riots

The police took under protection the synagogues in Makhachkala, Buynaksk, Derbent, and Khasavyurt after riots at an airport in Makhachkala.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 29, mass riots occurred at the Makhachkala airport following the reports about the alleged arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. More than 20 people were injured, including nine police officers. Five victims still stay in hospitals, including two in severe condition, the Ministry for Public Health reports. The police identified more than 150 riot participants and detained 60 people.

From October 26 to 29, mass anti-Semitic actions took place in three republics of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). In Cherkessk, protesters demanded not to allow visitors from Israel entering the republic, and in Nalchik, a Jewish cultural centre under construction was burned. In Dagestan, hundreds of people gathered in front of a hotel in Khasavyurt following messages on social media reporting that refugees from Israel were allegedly staying there.

Let us remind you that Muslims of Northern Caucasus did not remain indifferent to the aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. So, on October 28, the Muftiate of Dagestan reported about thousands of participants in prayers for the Palestinians.

Earlier, the Coordinating Centre of Muslims in Northern Caucasus has called anti-Semitic actions unacceptable and urged not to regard the opinions of their participants as the opinion of the people.
