Court approves fine imposed on Korotkov from Adygea for fake news about Russian Army

The cassation court has upheld the verdict passed to Igor Korotkov, an Adygea resident, who was fined by 800,000 roubles for disseminating false information about the Russian Army. The human rights project "OVD-Info"* has reported this in its Telegram channel.

On May 22, 2023, the Supreme Court (SC) of Adygea upheld the sentence passed to Igor Korotkov.

Earlier, on March 3, the Krasnogvardeisky District Court of Adygea found Korotkov guilty, treating the video about the Russian Army, the link to which Igor Korotkov had posted on the WhatsApp** as a fake.

According to law enforcers, in March 2022, Korotkov "posted deliberately false information on the WhatsApp** under the guise of reliable messages – a link to the video containing false information about the activities of the Russian Armed Forces."

The messages posted in public group chats can become a reason for accusations of fake news about the Russian Army, and one's personal correspondence should not become the basis for such cases, the lawyers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have pointed out.

**On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
