Shootout with law enforcers in Ingushetia was the first in seven months

The shootout in Sunzha, where law enforcers killed an armed man, was preceded by a similar incident in the Malgobek District in April 2023.

Law enforcers have shot dead an alleged accomplice of "the wanted members of a bandit grouping," the Department of the FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) for Ingushetia has reported. According to the Department, at the detention attempt, the man opened fire at law enforcers and was killed by return fire.

According to the "Caucasian Knot", the shootout with law enforcers in Sunzha was the first in seven months after a similar incident in the village of Zyazikov-Yurt, Malgobek District.

On April 5, 2023, in the course of the counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted in the village of Zyazikov-Yurt, law enforcers came across a grouping of suspected militants. When trying to detain them, they opened fire. Three policemen were killed and eight others were wounded.

The law enforcers' losses in Zyazikov-Yurt became the largest in terms of the number of victims per day among law enforcers in Ingushetia after August 2012, the "Caucasian Knot" then calculated.

It should be noted that the above CTO, conducted in April in the Malgobek District, was the first in Ingushetia since 2020. In 2022, no armed incidents, explosions or terror acts were recorded in Ingushetia. In 2021, at least one person fell victim to the armed conflict in Ingushetia – an alleged militant was killed by law enforcers.
