Volgograd Region resident accused of spreading fake news about Russian Army

A case against Daniil Vodolagin, a resident of the Volgograd Region, charged under the criminal article on disseminating fake news about the Russian Armed Forces, has been brought to court.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the article “Public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” was introduced on March 4, 2022, after the start of the Russia’s special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. In particular, Alexander Nozdrinov, a journalist from the Krasnodar Territory, was sentenced to 8.5 years of imprisonment under the above-mentioned article. His relatives and friends associated the criminal prosecution with the journalist’s civic position and declared the bias of the court, to which the defence presented evidence that of Alexander Nozdrinov was not guilty.

The Sovetsky District Court of Volgograd received the criminal case against Daniil Vodolagin, accused of spreading fake news about the Russian Armed Forces motivated by political hatred, the “Mediazona”* reported.

Probably, the defendant is Daniil Vodolagin from the town of Dubovka in the Volgograd Region. Until October 2022, he posted pacifist posts on Twitter. Daniil Vodolagin faces a punishment ranging from a fine of three million roubles to 10 years of imprisonment.

*On September 29, 2021, the Ministry of Justice of Russia included the LLC “ZP” (the legal entity that had established the “Mediazona”) into the list of media outlets-foreign agents.
