Resident of Volgograd Region convicted for fakes about Russian Army
The Kotelnikovsky District Court of Volgograd has sentenced Vasily Melnikov, a local resident, to five years in jail with a three-year-long ban on administering Internet sites within the case of spreading fakes about the Russian Army. This was reported by the human rights project "OVD-Info"* with reference to the court's press service.
According to law enforcers, Melnikov had spoken negatively about the Russian leadership and was also a member of "a number of thematic groups and forums."
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Melnikov was detained within a criminal case of discrediting the Russian Army in his comments posted in social networks. Earlier, he was sentenced to compulsory labour under the article on calls for violating Russia's territorial integrity for his proposal to create the Kotelnikov Republic. Human rights defenders have recognized Vasily Melnikov as a political prisoner.
