Case of Khasavyurt resident on fakes about Russian Army returned for review
Due to the found violations, the appellate court has overturned the sentence passed to Shakhban Abakargadjiev, a resident of the city of Khasavyurt, and returned the case of fakes about the Russian Army to the city court.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 8, 2023, the Khasavyurt City Court found Abakargadjiev guilty of spreading fakes about the Russian Army and sentenced him to five years in colony, but replaced the punishment with a more lenient one – three years of correctional labour with a three-year ban on administering Internet sites.
According to the verdict, Abakargadjiev had posted comments in social networks about the Ukrainian civilians killed in the Kyiv Region. In court, he admitted guilt and repented, explaining that he had placed his posts "in a fit of anger after his dead nephew was brought from Ukraine."
The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has overturned Abakargadjiev's sentence, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has reported.
Let us remind you that the project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" has recognized Shakhban Abakargadjiev as a political prisoner and demanded his release. The article under which Abakargadjiev was convicted contradicts both the Russian Constitution and Russia's international obligations, as well as the basic principles of law, human rights defenders have stated.
