KBR resident complains to ICRF against Stalin for committed deportation

The reason for deporting Caucasian nations in 1944 was in their ethnicity, while the then USSR Constitution guaranteed equality; this was stated by Oleg Kelemetov, a resident of Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), in his application to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). He demands to check the decisions made by Stalin, Beria, Molotov and other members of the USSR's State Defence Committee for violations of the law.

On March 8, the KBR marks the deportation anniversary of Balkar nationals. In 2023, on the 79th deportation anniversary, commemoration actions were held in the republic, in Nalchik inclusive.

Oleg Kelemetov has explained that in 1944 his father was deported to Kazakhstan, the "Kommersant" reports. He has clarified that he turns to the ICRF not as the son of a repressed person, but as a citizen who wants to punish those guilty of breaking the law.

The eviction decisions were contrary to the article of the USSR 1937 Constitution that granted citizens equal rights regardless of their race or nationality, Mr Kelemetov has claimed.

In 1943, Karachais were also subjected to mass eviction. Soviet authorities justified deportations by myths about mass betrayal and desertion of the nationals.

Let us recall that in 2022, Boris Sokolov, a historian and a member of the Association of Russian Society Researchers, told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the decision about which nations to subject to repressions depended directly on Stalin.
