Blogger Alibekov’s case on discrediting Russian Army sent for reconsideration
In Krasnodar, the Court of Cassation cancelled the verdict to Askhabali Alibekov, a native of Dagestan, under the article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces and sent his case for reconsideration, although the blogger had already served his sentence.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 23, 2023, Askhabali Alibekov was sentenced to a year and two months of imprisonment: the court recognized that the video posted by the blogger on his YouTube channel discredited the Russian Armed Forces. On March 9, a spouse of Askhabali Alibekov reported that the prosecutor’s office was not satisfied with the verdict in the case on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces and that prosecutors challenged the verdict after the blogger had already served his sentence.
Askhabali Alibekov, an author of the “Wild Paratrooper” channel on YouTube, was involved as a suspect in a criminal case of using violence against a policeman. According to the investigators’ version, during his detention, Askhabali Alibekov kicked one of the policemen.
The Fourth Court of Cassation cancelled the verdict to Askhabali Alibekov and sent the case on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces for a new trial, the “OVD-Info”* human rights project reports with reference to the Askhabali Alibekov’s spouse. The prosecutor’s office challenged the verdict, alleging violations committed when imposing an additional sentence by the first instance court.
