Volgograd activist complains about disclosure of his personal data

Roman Melnichenko, who was fired from the Volgograd State University for his oppositional statements, has filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office against a local TV channel, which had disclosed his personal data and accused him of sabotage due to an action in memory of Alexei Navalny. Melnichenko has demanded to open a criminal case against the channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Volgograd TV had disclosed the names of the people who brought flowers in memory of Navalny to the monument to victims of political repressions, treating the people as potential "saboteurs".

Roman Melnichenko has informed that on February 16, 2024, "law enforcers received an order to conduct an operative filming" at the memorial "Monument to Victims of Political Repressions". According to Melnichenko, there was a car with a hidden camera in the parking lot near the monument. According to his story, some unknown persons videotaped those who laid flowers at the memorial in memory of Alexei Navalny in the period from February 16 to March 1, 2024. These persons "had the intent to illegally disseminate information about the private lives of the citizens recorded in the video," Mr Melnichenko believes.

Then, according to his story, a report was aired on Volgograd TV, in which personal data of citizens, including Melnichenko, was disclosed.

Activist Vladimir Telpuk has also filed a complaint with the police; his data was also disclosed by the TV channel.
