Priest Pivovarov sentenced to fine in case on discrediting Russian Army

A court in Slavyansk-on-Kuban sentenced Archbishop of the Russia’s Orthodox Church Viktor Pivovarov to a fine of 150,000 roubles, finding him guilty of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. That was reported by the “OVD-Info”* human rights project.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in January, it became known that the Slavyansk-on-Kuban City Court received the case instituted against Viktor Pivovarov, accused of repeatedly discrediting the Russian Armed Forces (the article provides for up to seven years of imprisonment). The reason for the prosecution was Viktor Pivovarov’s article condemning the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Viktor Pivovarov associated the criminal case against him with a message to believers.

Let us remind you that in March 2023, the Slavyansk-on-Kuban City Court fined Viktor Pivovarov 40,000 roubles under the administrative article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. The Archbishop of the Russia’s Orthodox Church confirmed that he voiced statements during his sermon that the court recognized as discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.
