Makhachkala resident convicted in case on involvement in “USSR”*

A court sentenced a woman from Makhachkala to a suspended sentence, recognizing her as a member of a cell of the extremist organization “Union of Rus’ Slavic Forces”.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 5, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported that six persons were convicted on the charge of involvement in the activities of the “Makhachkala City Council of People’s Deputies of the Dagestani Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the RSFSR/USSR”, which investigators consider a division of the banned extremist organization “Union of Rus’ Slavic Forces” (USSR)*.

The Kirov District Court of Makhachkala sentenced hairdresser Svetlana Mirzoeva to 3.5 years of suspended imprisonment, finding her guilty of participating in the activities of an extremist organization, the “OVD-Info”** human rights project reports.

Let us remind you that on May 13, 2023, it became known that a court sentenced Tatiana Fomina, a resident of Makhachkala, to three years of suspended imprisonment for involvement in the activities of the banned extremist organization “USSR”. In June of the same year, Makhachkala resident Sharab Davudov was sentenced to suspended imprisonment for participating in the activities of the above-mentioned organization.

In Makhachkala, a court found Ruslan Abdullaev, detained in March 2022, guilty of involvement in a cell of the “USSR Citizens”* and sentenced him to imprisonment in a penal colony, but taking into account the time spent under arrest, Ruslan Abdullaev was released in the courtroom. The prosecutor’s office filed an appeal with a request to toughen the punishment for Ruslan Abdullaev, and the Supreme Court of Dagestan added six months of restriction of freedom to the sentence.

*In 2019, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic recognized the “Union of Rus’ Slavic Forces” (one of the group of movements that also includes “USSR Citizens”) as an extremist organization.

**Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
