Dagestani journalist apologizes for his tabloid report about polyandry in Ingushetia

Murad Magomedov, a journalist from Dagestan, voiced a public apology to residents of Ingushetia for a video released on a TV channel, which reported that a young woman from the village of Plievo, using elements of disguise, allegedly got married several times.

The TV report tells a story about a young woman from the village of Plievo in Ingushetia, who allegedly got married twice, doing the above by analogy with how some men take several women as wives, the publication “The Magas Times” reported in its Telegram channel. At the same time, the young woman changed her appearance by using contact lenses and enlarging her lips. The author of the TV report also stated that the woman’s first husband and relatives attended the second wedding party.

The TV report was accompanied by a specific presentation, including phrases from the journalist stating: “If there is polygamy in the Caucasus, then why not polyandry?” and “A married lady performed a wedding performance.”

Murad Magomedov explained that he agreed to prepare the report on the instructions of his supervisors, since at that time he did not yet have sufficient professional experience. The journalist stated that if he were given such a task now, he would refuse it.

Two other men appear in the video with Murad Magomedov. After the journalist’s report, one of those men noted that in Ingushetia, elders carefully check the reputation of girls who get married.
