Schoolgirl from Nevinnomyssk suspected of committing terror act left at SIZO

The Stavropol Territorial Court has refused to soften the freedom restriction measure for a 15-year-old ninth-grade schoolgirl from Nevinnomyssk, who is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison). Together with her peer, she is suspected of setting fire to mobile operator stations.

On August 6, it became known that in the Stavropol Territory, law enforcers had detained a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. They are suspected of setting fire to four mobile operator stations.

The court has arrested the girl until September 30. Her advocate asked to soften the restriction measure for the schoolgirl, since she cannot attend school while at the SIZO. According to the advocate, investigators failed to provide specific justification for the fact that she could abscond if released.

The prosecutor spoke out against any softening. As a result, the court has left the schoolgirl in custody.

The article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Terror act" provides for up to life imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 27, 2024, the parents of the teenagers detained in Novosibirsk for setting fire to relay cabinets, a cellular station and an SU-24 aircraft said that they treated the case as falsified. Investigators opened similar cases in Southern Russia, although they have signs of law enforcers' provocations, a lawyer has noted.
