On September 2-8, one person killed and another wounded in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from September 2 to September 8, 2024, one militant was killed and one law enforcer was wounded in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot”, based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

On September 3, a man with a screwdriver attacked inspectors of a road-and-patrol police service (known as DPS) checkpoint at the entrance to Magas. A policeman was wounded, and the attacker was killed. According to the investigators’ report, a criminal case has been instituted on the attempt to kill the policeman.

The attack on the DPS checkpoint was preceded by a similar incident in the capital of Chechnya in November 2022. In Ingushetia, the above-mentioned attack became the second armed incident since the beginning of the year after the counter-terrorist operation (CTO) in Karabulak and the first attack with the use of bladed weapons within more than four years.

Lone militants use the element of surprise to attack law enforcers. However, the use of improvised means in the attack on the DPS checkpoint in Magas proved the weakening of the armed underground, suggest military experts and an expert for the Caucasus.
