Astrakhan resident with many children sentenced for escaping from military unit in SMO zone
A court sentenced Denis Salmin, a contract soldier from the Astrakhan Region, to six years and six months of imprisonment, finding him guilty of leaving his military unit without permission.
In August 2023, the 37-year-old father of five children signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence (MIA) and went to the special military operation (SMO) zone. Then he voluntarily left his place of service and went home.
In court, Denis Salmin claimed that he allegedly received an order from his commander directed against his fellow soldiers, the official website of the Southern District Military Court reported.
The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that the court upheld the sentence of Astrakhan resident Zayan Nastaev, accused of desertion. According to the investigators’ version, Zayan Nastaev escaped from the military service in 2006 and has been hiding from the law enforcement bodies all these years.
