Muftiates distance off Kadyrov-Kerimov conflict

The Muftiate of Dagestan has stated that authorities should resolve the conflict between Ramzan Kadyrov and Suleiman Kerimov, while the society should not be drawn into it. The Muftiate of Chechnya did not publicly respond to the conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 12, Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, after the Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, had threatened a blood feud against Suleiman Kerimov, recalled the Senator's charitable projects and promised that the republic "would always support him in difficult times". The Mayor of Derbent has also spoken out in support of Kerimov.

On October 9, Ramzan Kadyrov, speaking about the conflict around the Wildberries Company, mentioned Suleiman Kerimov, Senator from Dagestan, and Russian State Duma MPs Bekkhan Barakhoev and Rizvan Kurbanov. He called on them to prove their non-involvement in the order to kill Kadyrov and warned of his readiness to declare a blood feud against them. Rizvan Kurbanov, a State Duma MP from Dagestan, has stated that he had taken no part in the preparation of the assassination attempt on Kadyrov, and has nothing to do with the Wildberries.

The position of the Dagestani Muftiate was voiced out by Aina Gamzatova, a Mufti's adviser. She wrote in her Telegram channel that she treated the demands for the Muftiate of Dagestan to speak out in support of Kerimov, since he had repeatedly provided assistance to the Muftiate, as a speculation. Ms Gamzatova has noted that Kerimov himself is against this. She also recalled that the Senator-businessman had repeatedly helped his fellow countrymen perform Hajj and helped with the construction of a mosque in Makhachkala.

Authorities should deal the situation with Kerimov and Kadyrov, while the public should not be involved into it, Abdulla Selimov, the Chairman of the Dagestani Muftiate, has stated.

Analysts stated earlier that the Kremlin will have the final say in the conflict around the Wildberries.
