Human rights defenders respond to Arashukov’s statements about torture

The Public Oversight Commission (POC) of the Orenburg Region will check a complaint filed by former senator from Karachay-Cherkessia Rauf Arashukov about torture in the “Black Dolphin” penitentiary facility.

Rauf Arashukov demanded to be transferred to a penal colony in Mordovia, since, according to his complaint, at the “Black Dolphin” penitentiary facility in the Orenburg Region, he is being subjected to torture and provocations.

Let us remind you that Rauf Arashukov is accused of transferring three million roubles to employees of the “Black Dolphin” penitentiary facility for creating favourable conditions for himself while serving his sentence. On October 24, Rauf Arashukov claimed that the new charge against him was related to the consideration of his cassation appeal, while public prosecutors still had no evidence of the former senator’s guilt.

On December 27, 2022, the Moscow City Court sentenced Rauf Arashukov and his father Raul Arashukov, a former adviser to the general director of the “Gazprom Mezhregiongaz” Company, to life imprisonment. The court of appeal upheld the sentences.

Caucasian experts interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot” suggested that the collapse of the Arashukov family clan had been initiated by the people significantly higher in the hierarchy than Ramzan Kadyrov, whom Rauf Arashukov considered his friend.
