In Austria, activists protest against extradition of Chechen woman to Russia
A protest action against the deportation of Selima Khadisova was held in Vienna. In Russia, the woman has been accused of having ties to illegal armed formations (IAFs). The Chechen diaspora claims that the woman fled from domestic violence.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that 32-year-old Selima Khadisova was detained in Bosnia. According to the Chechen diaspora’s information, the woman was put on the wanted list in Russia at the insistence of her husband’s relatives.
On October 29, about 30 people gathered in front of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the capital of Austria. The protesters came out with the posters in their hand reading: “Stop deportation”, “Freedom for Selima”, “Stop the persecution of Chechens by Russia”. Following the rally, a resolution was submitted to the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Vienna, reports Roza Dunaeva, an organizer of the protest action.
“In Russia, Selima will most likely be tortured and subjected to other human rights violations. The worst thing – killing – is also not excluded. Now she is separated from her three children, with whom she arrived in Sarajevo,” Roza Dunaeva noted as quoted by the “Thoughts of Islam” Telegram channel.
Selima Khadisova was detained because of an extradition order issued by Interpol, on the charge of participating in an illegal armed formation.
According to the information of activists who placed a petition on the “change.org” website, Selima Khadisova fell victim to domestic violence and was saving her children from her abusive husband.
It should be noted that filing false crime reports, in which relatives accuse women who have fled from domestic violence, has become a method used to return the women to their families.
