Jehovah’s Witness* from Novorossiysk detained

In the Krasnodar Territory, the police detained Dmitry Mladov, a Jehovah’s Witness* from Novorossiysk. The detainee was transported to an IVS (temporary detention facility) in the Moscow Region.

On December 23, Dmitry Mladov and his spouse were stopped by inspectors of the road police (known as GIBDD) while the spouses were driving in a car. After checking their documents, the police inspectors took Dmitry Mladov and his spouse to a local police department for combating extremism. Soon Dmitry Mladov was taken to the Moscow Region and placed to an IVS (temporary detention facility) in Taldom. Presumably, the detainee has been charged with participating in an extremist organization, the “OVD-Info”** human rights project reports.

The Dmitry Mladov’s detention was preceded by searches at apartments of Jehovah’s Witnesses* in the Moscow Region, in particular, on December 19. At least, five persons were interrogated. The believers reported that they were subjected to pressure: law enforcers were persuading them to refuse to participate in the trials to recognize the searches as lawful. One of the Jehovah's Witnesses* – Galina Inkina – was subjected to a pre-trial restriction measure not related to detention.

*All the 396 Russian organizations of Jehovah’s Witnesses were recognized as extremist, and their activities in Russia were banned by court decision.

**Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
