State Duma MP addresses GPO head regarding case of missing athlete Tsomartova
A State Duma MP has sent an appeal to the head of the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) with a demand to check the progress of the inquiry into the murder of Anna Tsomartova, who went missing in Kaspiysk in February 2024.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the search for Anna Tsomartova, a native of North Ossetia, has been ongoing since February 12, 2024. She went missing in Kaspiysk after losing a tournament when she was in a depressed state. According to her mother, investigators have opened a murder case, and the version of kidnapping is also being considered. Moscow investigators got interested in a photo of a girl looking like Anna, taken in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On March 2, 2024, Diana Tsomartova, the mother, stated, in her complaint sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, that Gayana Garieva, the MIA's press secretary, had spread false information about her daughter's suicide. As reported by the "161.ru" outlet, in her appeal, Diana Tsomartova asked to verify the above facts about the violation of the family's constitutional rights and the facts about the full-scale investigation that had lasted for 10 months. The State Duma MP insists on checking all the facts.
According to Diana Tsomartova, a petition placed on the "Change.Org" website, in which the athlete's family complained about bullying, has helped in attracting the attention of the State Duma MPs.
On November 18, 2024, it became known that a court in Rostov-on-Don refused to reinstate Nikolai Tsomartov in his position at the MIA, treating his statements about the inquiry into his daughter's disappearance as criticism of the MIA. On December 14, 2024, the mother complained that she was threatened with dismissal from the MIA for criticizing law enforcement bodies due to the inefficient inquiry into her daughter's disappearance.
