Social network users treat campaign against car window tinting in Chechnya as election campaign

The ban on car window tinting in Chechnya fails to cover the head of the republic himself and his close associates, commentators have pointed out.

On January 8, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, called tinting of any car windows in Chechnya unacceptable. In December 2024, road checks in Chechnya were intensified; drivers linked them to the fight against tinting.

Users of the Instagram* public "ChP Chechnya" have pointed out a special approach to tinting in Chechnya.

"Don't forget that some foreign-made cars have factory tinting," the user gorec151276 has commented on Kadyrov's demands.

The ban on tinting does not apply to the leadership of Chechnya, a reader of the "Caucasian Knot" has noted, adding that many years ago Kadyrov explained the demands to remove tinting by the fight against militants. "I don't know what the Chechen leader's dislike of tinted windows is connected with, but he himself, his family members, his retinue and their relatives drive only tinted expensive foreign cars. And no bans apply to them," he has written.

The motorcade of the head of Chechnya, which visited North Ossetia in July 2024, included 30 cars. Almost all of them had tinted windows, as follows from the video posted in the "Sapa Kavkaz" Telegram channel.

*On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
