Action in support of non-recognized republics held in Volgograd
On November 1, the "New People" Inter-Regional Youth Public Organization held a protest action in the centre of Volgograd under the motto "Spectacles for Bush".
"Today, the so-called non-recognized Republics - Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transdniestria - are already having all the main institutes of power: president, parliament and armed forces. The people of these republics have confirmed by means of their referendums the desire to define their future by themselves. But certain politicians in Europe and USA would not notice it point-blank. These spectacles that we've decided to collect in the streets of Volgograd are intended for them," Elena Tkach, press secretary of the "New People", has explained the aim of the action.
The activists of the youth organization called on the passers-by to donate their spectacles to President Bush and to write a letter to the US President, who asserts, that the so-called non-recognized republics have no right for sovereignty.
As a result, 33 spectacles - sun-protection ones and those with dioptres, and all the collected written wishes were packed into a parcel that will be sent to the US Embassy together with a letter asking to transfer the spectacles to the US president Bush.
Besides, on October 31 the "New People" NGO held in Volgograd an action in support of the peacekeeping mission of Russian soldiers in maintaining peace and stability in the Abkhazian region.
