Slyusar demands to demolish monument to Pyotr Krasnov
Yuri Slyusar, Acting Governor of the Rostov Region, has ordered to demolish the monument to Ataman Pyotr Krasnov by May 9 this year.
The Elansky Cossack Museum and Memorial Complex was founded in 2006. In May 2016, authorities of the Rostov Region initiated an inspection of the museum of the anti-Bolshevik struggle in the village of Elanskaya, declaring the "inadmissibility of the work of a private museum dedicated to General Pyotr N. Krasnov." In their turn, supporters of preserving the museum demanded not to close the museum and the memorial entitled "Don Cossacks in the Fight against Bolsheviks".
The above Acting Governor, Yuri Slyusar, declared, while speaking to the Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Rostov Region, the inadmissibility of perpetuating the historical figures who openly sided with Nazis during the Great Patriotic War (World War II). In particular, he mentioned Ataman Pyotr Krasnov, who was posthumously convicted of collaborating with Nazi Germany, the outlet “Privet Rostov” (Hallo, Rostov) wrote on April 26.
Acting Governor Slyusar has demanded that the monument to Krasnov be "immediately" demolished, setting the deadline – before the Victory Day on May 9.
