Activists accuse Azeri authorities of destroying monuments in Karabakh
According to “Artsakh Monuments”, the Armenian State Service for the Protection of Historical Environment, Azerbaijani authorities have ruined monuments to those who perished during the Great Patriotic War (WW II) in the village of Vank, a khachkar (a stone stele with a carved cross image) and a stele erected in memory of the heroes of the Karabakh conflict.
On May 3, the “News.am” outlet reported that the “Artsakh Monuments” had blamed Azerbaijan of destroying the above monument in the village of Vank in the Martuni District of Nagorno-Karabakh, a khachkar erected in memory of the heroes of the Karabakh conflict, and a stele with a bas-relief depicting the fallen heroes.
Activists have accused Azeri authorities of "anti-Armenian and anti-cultural destructive policy" and the destruction of "everything Armenian".
