Residents of Frolovo complain about environmental situation
In the city of Frolovo, residents complained about severe environmental problems resulting from the operation of the electrometallurgical plant. The management of the plant claims that the environmental situation has improved, and the local authorities have expressed their concern. At the same time, one of the activists has been invited to the local police department to give an explanation.
Residents of Frolovo recorded an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Alexander Bastrykin, the chair of the Investigating Committee of the Russian federation (ICRF). In their appeal, the activists complain about the environmental problems caused by the operation of the Donskoy Electrometallurgical Plant LLC.
The city residents complained that they had contacted various public institutions with a request to check the operation of the electrometallurgical plant, because of which, as they claim, people could hardly breathe in the city, but all appeals were in vain, the “Vysota 102” (Height 102) publication reported on May 4.
After the appeal, head of Frolovo Vasily Dankov has stated that the authorities of the Frolovo urban district are concerned about the environmental situation, but at the same time, he has noted that hundreds of residents of the city work at the plant. According to the Vasily Dankov’s report, in March, the plant director assured the authorities that the environmental situation at the electrometallurgical plant had improved. The head of Frolovo has also reported that the prosecutor’s office has been involved in investigating the problem.
The management of the electrometallurgical plant has reported that last year, they checked the state of the atmospheric air and did not find any excess of the maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants.
However, the city residents note that they have got a response from the territorial office of the “Rospotrebnadzor” (Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision). According to the document, excess of the SanPiN (sanitary regulations and norms) standards for the content of suspended particles and other insoluble components was detected in air samples taken in January. In addition, in its response, the “Rospotrebnadzor” has noted that the department has agreed with the Prosecutor’s Office of the Volgograd Region on the decision to conduct an inspection of the electrometallurgical plant.
Meanwhile, Yanosh Malinovsky, one of the activists, who took complaints from the residents of Frolovo to Volgograd, reported that he was summoned to the local police department to provide an explanation. Yanosh Malinovsky has noted that a complaint against the activists was lodged by the Frolovo administration for “violation of public order and public safety under Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.”
Yanosh Malinovsky has also stated that in March, thirteen residents of Frolovo tried to pass an appeal of residents, under which more than 400 people left their signatures, to the administration of the Frolovo urban district, but they were not allowed inside the administration building.
