Count of convicts for riots at Makhachkala Airport reaches 105

A court in the Stavropol Territory has sentenced four residents of Dagestan to 10 years in colony each, treating them as rioters at the Makhachkala Airport. The number of people convicted within the "airport case" has reached 105.

The Mineralnye Vody City Court has found Arsen Arbuliev, Malik Aliev, Saidapandi Abdulazizov and Nazhmudin Abakarov guilty under Part 2 of Article 212 (participation in mass riots) and Part 3 of Article 263.1 (failure to comply with transport safety requirements at transport infrastructure facilities) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the Prosecutor's Office (PO) of the Stavropol Territory has reported today.

"It has been established that on October 29, 2023, Arsen Arbuliev, Malik Aliev, Saidapandi Abdulazizov and Nazhmudin Abakarov, while at the “Uytash” Airport, acting on the basis of national and religious hatred and enmity towards Israeli citizens, refusing to comply with law enforcers’ legal demands, took part in mass riots accompanied by violence and destruction of property," the PO’s Telegram channel has informed.

The court has sentenced each of the four defendants each to ten years in a general regime penal colony.

However, the report has failed to list the actions for which specific defendants were found guilty. The PO has only provided generalized and anonymous data that "the rioters’ unlawful actions destroyed and damaged the airport property worth more than 24 million roubles, and violated transport and aviation security requirements."

Taking this sentence into account, overall 105 people have already been convicted under the "airport case," the Interfax has written today.

Sentences of 8-10 years in prison have become common in the "airport case," Shamil Khadulaev, Chairman of the Dagestani public oversight commission (POC), noted this March. "Everything is being done as if from a carbon copy," he told the "Caucasian Knot".
