Life-sentenced Djantemirov asks to be transferred to penal colony in Chechnya

Dokku Djantemirov, who serves his life sentence in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, has asked to be transferred to a penal colony in the territory of Chechnya, where his relatives live.

Life-sentenced Dokku Djantemirov has requested his transfer to a penal colony in Chechnya, the RIA “Novosti” news agency reports today with reference to court documents.

The court documents report that Dokku Djantemirov, while serving his sentence in the “Polyarnaya Sova” (Polar Owl) penal colony in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, has sent an appeal to the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) to transfer him to a penal colony in Chechnya, where his close relatives live, but the appeal was not considered. Dokku Djantemirov then filed a lawsuit in one of the Moscow courts, explaining that due to his appeal being ignored, he “experiences severe mental anguish, which resulted in the deterioration in his health state: he has been diagnosed with a peptic ulcer.”

However, the court returned the claim to the plaintiff due to lack of jurisdiction, stating that the issue should be resolved by the court at the location of the penitentiary institution. Dokku Djantemirov has not yet filed a similar claim with the courts in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the RIA “Novosti” news agency reports.

Over the past several years, Dokku Djantemirov has filed claims with the courts of Moscow and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug against the Russian Post for violating the deadlines for sending correspondence, against the penal colony due to the administration’s limitation of phone calls, the number of parcels and packages, and against the medical unit in the penal for its failure to provide adequate medical assistance. All claims were rejected, the news agency reports.
