ICRF to investigate death of a minor girl in Morozovsk orphanage
Investigators are engaged in checking the circumstances of the death in an orphanage in Morozovsk of a 15-year-old girl who was subjected to domestic violence. Teachers and officials were aware of the teenager’s troubles, but failed to take any appropriate actions, investigation suggested.
Alexander Bastrykin, the chairman of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), has ordered the institution of a criminal case “on a complaint about illegal actions against a minor in the city of Morozovsk in the Rostov Region,” the ICRF’s information centre reported on its Telegram channel on June 13.
“It is reported that for a long time, in the city of Morozovsk in the Rostov Region, the 15-year-old girl was subjected to abuse by the mother with her partner: they regularly beat the girl and also repeatedly arranged for the minor to be temporarily placed to an orphanage,” the ICRF’s information centre reports.
In May 2025, the woman, “leading an asocial lifestyle,” fell into a coma. “In connection with that fact, the schoolgirl was again placed to a social institution, where she died under unidentified circumstances. The public fears that the younger children, who currently also stay in the orphanage, will be returned to the family,” the investigators report.
According to the ICRF’s information, the school administration and “employees of relevant bodies” were aware of the situation that took place, but “did not take any response measures.” “The Department for the Rostov Region of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is conducting a procedural investigation into the incident,” the ICRF reports.
It is considered normal to beat children, explaining that this is an educational measure
“I am sure that people noticed, paid attention to the fact that the children walk around beaten. If one child in the family is beaten, the rest are most likely beaten too. However, most likely, until the child died, no one from the general public cared,” Yekaterina Neroznikova, a coordinator of the “Marem” human rights group, shared her opinion.
“It is now considered normal to beat children, explaining that this is an educational measure, and people always remain silent. Children are being beaten at home, beaten at school, and then this behaviour is being transmitted to the younger generation,” claimed Saida Sirazhudinova, the President of the Centre for the Study of Global Issues of Modernity and Regional Problems “Caucasus. World. Development”.
