Adgur Kharaziya arrested for two months
The Sukhumi City Court pronounced a pre-trial restriction measure in the form of arrest for Adgur Kharaziya, a former member of the Abkhazian parliament. The man is accused of killing another member of the parliament.
On June 14, the law enforcement bodies reported about the detention of Adgur Kharaziya, a former member of the Abkhazian parliament, in a criminal case on the killing of MP Vakhtang Golandziya. The man who fired on the former MP’s house was also arrested.
The Sukhumi City Court chose for Adgur Kharaziya a pre-trial restriction measure in the form of two-month arrest.
Adgur Kharaziya, who had been on the run for six months, most likely surrendered voluntarily, the “JAMnews” publication reports. “This conclusion can be drawn from the video distributed by the press service for the state security service. The video shows Adgur Kharaziya getting out of a car without handcuffs and with a briefcase in his hand, accompanied by state security service head Dmitry Dbar and Minister of Internal Affairs Robert Kiut. Together they enter the building of the state security service,” reports the article entitled “After six months, a former MP, who opened fire in parliament and killed his colleagues, has been detained in Abkhazia” and dated June 14, 2025.
On the same day, the law enforcement bodies detained Bagrat Surmava, born in 1992, who is suspected of firing 25 shots from a Kalashnikov assault rifle at the Adgur Kharaziya’s house in December 2024, when Adgur Kharaziya was already on the run.
“Presumably, he is a relative of MP Kan Kvarchiya and was thus taking revenge for the MP’s injury,” the “JAMnews” publication reports and also notes: “Experts suggest that the detention of Bagrat Surmava was one of the conditions for the Adgur Kharaziya’s voluntary surrender to the law enforcement bodies.”
