North Ossetia: relatives of the woman knocked down by ATC accuse Prosecutor's Office of inaction

Relatives of Aishat Pogorova who was knocked down to death by an armoured troop-carrier (ATC) of federal troops in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia have stated that the Prosecutor's Office is reluctantly investigating the death of the woman.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent had a talk with the relatives of Pogorova, Aishat Ahmedovna, born in 1973, who was ran down on November 24, 2007, near the highway in the settlement of Maiskiy of the Prigorodny District.

On December 4, inspector of the Military Prosecutor's Office Samokhin, Sergey Aleksandrovich, told the relatives that the criminal case on the fact of the incident was not initiated yet.

Mustafa Pogorov, Aishat's uncle, has informed that Aishat had been the breadwinner of the family; she was supporting her elderly parents and seven brothers and sisters, as she worked as a dentist.

On November 24, at 6:45 p.m. on a highway in the settlement of Chermen a military ATC with caulked number plates knocked down Aishat Pogorova, a resident of the Maiskiy settlement. Three women, residents of Maiskiy - a shop assistant and two housewives - were the witnesses of the accident.

They have told that during the ATC's travel along the highway, there was no transport and no obstacles for the drive, the road was empty. Ms Pogorova did not get onto the carriageway; she walked along the roadside, two meters away from the traffic line. The ATC was running at a high speed (the investigation has established that the speed was 80-90 km/hour), then it drove down from the carriageway into the shoulder and knocked Aishat down.

The eyewitnesses inform that seven soldiers were sitting on the ATC's surface. The crew of the vehicle hurried to disappear from the crime venue without rendering any medical aid to the victim.

The drivers of the three cars that were passing by organized a pursuit and detained the ATC, but only a driver was found inside, the soldiers had dispersed. Later, local residents brought the detained driver to the Interior Department (OVD) of the Maiskiy settlement, North Ossetia.
