About 100 separatists were amnestied in Chechnya

About a hundred of members of illegal armed units were amnestied in Chechnya. The Prosecutor of the Chechen Republic Vladimir Kravchenko announced it on Monday.

According to his words, since the day when the State Duma's resolution declaring an amnesty came into force, 118 people officially have made a request to apply this document to them. 93 of them were amnestied.

Kravchenko specified that the number 118 includes those persons who drew up their requests legally and submit written applications to law-enforcement organs. At the same time he noted the number of people who informed, through intermediaries, as well as in oral from, of their intention to lay down arms and cleared up conditions under which the amnesty would apply to them is considerably larger.

In Kravchenko's opinion, the amnesty played a vital part in the recovery of a situation in the Chechen Republic.

Kravchenko specified that the highest activity of separatists' appearance to law-enforcement organs is registered in the Gudermes region. 28 separatists have laid down arms here since the amnesty went into effect.
