Russia intends to establish protectorate over Abkhazia
Russian-Abkhazian political parties advocate for a Russian protectorate over Abkhazia in order to make it easier for Abkhazians to receive Russian citizenship. It is said in the joint Declaration of Solidarity that was signed by Russian People's Party Chairman Gennady Raikov and Political Council Chairman of the People's Party Yakub Lakoba.
In 1992 Abkhazia announced its going out of Georgia. An armed conflict arose after it. Now the Russian military, as a part of the CIS peacemaking forces, stay in the conflict area. Russia advocates the territorial integrity of Georgia.
