Abkhazian authorities deny their involvement in explosions in Georgia

On the night of October 6, five explosions took place in Pakhulani village, Tsalendzhikh District of Georgia. The authorities of Abkhazia have rejected the messages of Georgian media about their involvement in these incidents.

"Abkhazia has nothing to do with what happens in this area of Georgia," said Ruslan Kishmariya, plenipotentiary of President of Abkhazia in the Gali District. He treated the rumours about alleged involvement of the Abkhazian party as "another disinformation of Georgian mass media."

Shota Utiashvili, head of the Information-Analytical Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told the Radio Liberty that the five explosions at Pakhulani village happened near the Georgian-Abkhazian border. "The investigation is underway, and we'll find out what type the explosive was. We hope to find out also who stands behind," he said.

The basic version of the investigation is a terror act, Mr Utiashvili has emphasized: "It was certainly a terror act; this is the only version now. Four explosions took place in this village, and one more on the road leading to the Inguri Hydroelectric Power Plant." He also said that EU observers were involved in the investigation.

The "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports that according to the statement of Georgian MFA, Pakhulani village was shelled from the territory of Abkhazia.

We remind you that yesterday, on October 6, on the road section near the Inguri water basin, in the territory of Georgia, a bomb was also blown up when a column of Russian peacekeepers and two cars of the EU Monitoring Mission were moving along. Fortunately, there were no victims.
