South Ossetia residents filed 2,729 suits to the European Court

By October 9, the European Court for Human Rights has received 2,729 applications of South Ossetia residents against Georgia.

"The plaintiffs claim the military invasion of the Georgian army in August has resulted in the violation of their rights guaranteed by Articles 2 (the right to life), 3 (prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment), 8 (respect of private and family life), 13 (the right to effective judicial remedy) and 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and Protocol 1 (the right to protection of property)", runs the Strasburg Court communique cited by RIA "Novosti".

The victims from South Ossetia demand compensation of moral and material damage.

"These numerous individual claims increase the already enormous load on the European Court for Human Rights", notes the communique. In order to process all the complaints, Terry Davis, the Court's General Secretary, promises to launch a special examination procedure which may make it possible to consider the paperwork within several weeks, reports radio station "Echo Moskvy ".

The document also reminds that the Strasburg Court has also received the complaint of Georgia against Russia in connection with the conflict in the Caucasus.
