Abkhazia: EU observers are accused of attempting to get into the territory of Gali District
Military observers of the European Union have been noticed among the persons who tried to penetrate on Saturday, November 15, at about 3:30 p.m. Moscow time from the territory of Georgia into the territory of the Gali District of Abkhazia.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Lavrentiy Mikvabiya, coordinator of power agencies of the Gali District.
"There were two EU observers there for sure, they can't be mixed with anybody, we know how their uniform looks like," said Mr Mikvabiya.
As he said, apart from the military observers, the Georgian armed formation was accompanied by journalists who video filmed everything. "It tells that it was a pre-planned action," said the coordinator of power agencies.
Lavrentiy Mikvabiya treated as lies the news items of Georgian media that the incident between Abkhazian frontier guards and Georgian militaries took place in the territory of Georgia.
"Georgians find the whole territory of Abkhazia as their territory, and these are their problems. But I state with all the responsibility that the two skirmishes on Saturday, November 15, burst out in the territory of the Gali District of Abkhazia, and we never opened fire first. We've violated nothing. While the EU observers, who are called to observe in the territory of Georgia, should pay attention to numerous violations by the Georgian party," Mr Mikvabiya has emphasized.
Now, as he said, the situation in the pre-border Gali District has calmed down. The Abkhazian frontier guards are at service in the reinforced regime.
On November 16, the EU observers in Georgia stated that fire had been opened on them at the border with Abkhazia, when they investigated the death of a Georgian policeman near the Abkhazian territory. The EU mission asked the Abkhazian authorities to conduct investigation of this "unacceptable" incident.
