5,565 people fall victims to antipersonnel mines in 2002 - more than in any other country

5,565 people fall victims to antipersonnel mines last year - more than in any other country of the world. This was reported by the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.

According to the data of the organization, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, twice as much people suffered in Chechnya last year as the previous one. The International Campaign notes that both parties of the conflict - Russian forces and rebels - use mines.
