Draft resolution on recognition of Armenians' genocide submitted to US Congress
A draft resolution has been submitted to the House of Representatives of the US Congress, calling to recognize the genocide of Armenians, the Armenian Assembly of America has reported.
Draft resolution No. 316 calls the US president "to ensure an adequate perception and reflection in the foreign policy of the United States of the genocide of Armenians." The draft is also calling the president in his annual message "to correctly characterize the systematic and premeditated assassination of 1.5 million Armenians as 'genocide'."
Congressman Adam Schiff has declared: "The USA have exhaustive historical and moral grounds to recognize the genocide of Armenians. We also have a rather powerful modern argument: how can we take efficient actions against Darfour genocide, if we lack the will to condemn genocide irrespective of its time and place?" he asked.
According to preliminary data, about 150 congressmen are going to support the resolution.
