Armenia partially cancels the state of emergency

President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan has partially cancelled the state of emergency. Five opposition parties and public organizations are returned the right to act. The President has also ordered to seek other legal grounds for operation of mass media.

The respective decree to this end was read to journalists without comments by Victor Sogomonyan, press secretary of the President. According to his story, the President of the country has made this decision with account of the fact that from the date of introduction of the state of emergency no violations of public order were registered, the "Gazeta.Ru" informs.

It has become known to the "Caucasian Knot" that as a result of introduction of the state of emergency, residents of Yerevan and many regions of Armenia were deprived of information, and, first of all, of the information, which is alternative to the official one. A source close to the opposition has informed that during the recent days alternative information was disseminated in a number of Armenian regions. It was promulgated in the form of leaflets, DVD and laser disks. A new Internet resource was also started; its address was hastily distributed by the residents of the capital.
