Dramatized action of the opposition held near Parliament of Georgia
Yesterday, on April 11, the youth wing of the oppositional Republican Party of Georgia held a dramatized performance near the building of the National Parliament entitled "National Movement without Poverty." The name of the action is a variation of the name of the fifty-day state program of the Georgian authorities, and of the slogan of the Georgian government "Georgia without Poverty".
It was a sort of a protest against mass participation of influential Georgian businessmen in the forthcoming elections from the party in power "United National Movement" headed by President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili. The participants of the action brought 75 bags of "money" with the image of dollar and placed them on the steps of the building of the Parliament. They called the businessmen who run for the Parliament under the umbrella of "nationals" to think about their intention all over again.
According to Irakliy Kakhidze, chairman of the youth movement of the Party, they call all the businessmen who run for parliament from the party in power, not to yield to the pressure of the authorities.
"We advise them to continue their activities in business and to give up their participation in the elections. These 75 bags of money symbolically represent 75 majority candidates from the National Movement. They try to racket the businessmen in order to bribe Georgian voters," Irakliy Kakhidze told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
