EU supports independent investigation into March 1 events in Armenia

Today, the European Union has disseminated a statement related to the extraordinary report presented by the Ombudsman of Armenia and supporting the Ombudsman's initiative to have an independent investigation of the events that happened on March 1 this year in Yerevan.

The EU's statement runs: "On March 4, the European Union expressed its deep concern with the fact of violence applied during the events on March 1 in Yerevan, which resulted in human victims and numerous injuries. At that time, we called to hold an independent investigation into the tragic events and reveal the reasons."

"We welcome the publication of the extraordinary report of the Ombudsman of the Republic Armenia describing the pre- and post-election events, and his initiative on holding a discussion with international organizations," runs the statement that has arrived to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The EU recommends the authorities of Armenia "to hold a broader discussion of the report and to address the questions listed in the end of the document."

The statement emphasizes that "the European Union will support the Ombudsman's idea to conduct an independent investigation of March 1 events."

  • Khamzat Kadyrov confirms drone attack on Chechnya

    Secretary of the Chechen Security Council Khamzat Kadyrov has posted on a social networking service a video of the destruction of a drone. The Chechen official has also added that all the drones launched today to attack the republic had been shot down.
