David Sanakoev: six residents of South Ossetia still kept in Georgian captivity

The Georgian party is still keeping six Ossetians captured during the August 7-13 war in South Ossetia. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by David Sanakoev, Ombudsman under President of the Republic of South Ossetia.

"Six persons are still considered as missing, although it is known for certain that they are kept by Georgians. At least they have been," said Mr Sanakoev.

According to his version, there is a trophy telephone record, according to which Georgia keeps on of the Ossetians, who are considered as missing. "However, Georgia categorically denies that it keeps any hostages," the Ombudsman has noted.

Relatives of the missing persons have no news about them for the second month and hope for a miracle.

"When the war burst out, I was visiting my mother who lives in another village," Rosa Tabueva, 19, wife of one of the missing persons - Radion Ikaev, 24, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "I was told later, when fire abated a little Radion rushed to us to Bakatikau village; he wanted to take us away, but we had already escaped in the woods, and the village was occupied by Georgians."

In Bakatikau village two peaceful residents were captured. "They detained Radion and one more our neighbour - Tengiz Bakaev, and took them as prisoners. I'm pregnant, and I want my husband to be with me. But the time passes and I know nothing," the girl said crying.

Tengiz Bakaev, who was captured together with Radion Ikaev, says that in captivity they were severely beaten and kept without water.

  • Analysts assess Dagestani head’s statement on appeals of SMO fighters

The appeals of the participants of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine from Dagestan to republic’s authorities are caused by many local problems and remain one of the ways to attract officials’ attention. Despite the statement by the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, that the combatants record their appeals as a result of "manipulations," he will have to respond to them, analysts believe.
