Georgia breaks diplomatic relations with Nicaragua
Under the pretext that Nicaraguan authorities have recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Georgia has broken diplomatic relations with this country.
The statement of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says: "Upon decision of the Government of Georgia, the action of the Agreement 'On Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Georgia and the Republic of Nicaragua' of 1994 has been suspended."
Nicaragua is the second country after Russia to recognize the independence of the Republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The source named "Our Abkhazia" notes that the decision of Georgian authorities to break diplomatic relations is caused by the fact that Nicaragua "has recognized the independence of the two breakaway integral territories of Georgia."
In this context, the MFA of Georgia has sent a note announcing the termination of diplomatic relations to the mission of Nicaragua at the United Nations, the ITAR-TASS reports.
Earlier, in the same context (recognition of independence of two Georgian regions - Abkhazia and South Ossetia) the official Tbilisi broke diplomatic relations with Russia.
