Victims of mass fight in capital of Adygea report its national context
The mass fight that burst out in Lenin Square of Maikop, the capital of Adygea, at night of June 10, was initiated by a well-known sportsman, champion of Russia in hand-to-hand fighting. Later, among instigators was an international master of sports in boxing. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by one of the victims, who preferred not to name him for safety reasons. According to his story, there was no direct reason for the fight. The attackers did not like the nationality of someone from his group.
"We get together every evening in this square as this sort of international groupOssetians, Kumyks, one Azerbaijani, Adygs, Ingushes and Chechens. On that evening I also went there and met an Ingush and six Chechens; we stood there in a circle," recollected the victim.
"I departed from my group; but some time later, when I turned back, I saw that a group of some 30-40 Adygs attacked my friends without saying a word. I also got into the fight, but some time later militiamen came running, but, instead of detaining the attackers, they roped the victims; some of them were already on the ground in blood," he continued.
According to his story, some of the attackers used knuckles.
"Later we returned to the square at about midnight. Soon two cars arrived there and local guys got out, including sportsmen-champions. Without a word, they attacked us. I was beaten by four of them. I twice lost consciousness, and recovered with the help of militiamen, who took me to hospital. I had a brain concussion and plenty of bruises," the victim concluded.
Baizet Gamleshko, head of the press service of the MIA of the Republic of Adygea, explained: "The fact of the mass fight on June 10 was not registered in the reports; therefore I can't give you any details."
Meanwhile, one of separatists' web sites presents its own version of the incident in Lenin Square. According to the statement placed there, several natives of Chechnya and Ingushetia were attacked and severely beaten by up to 20 persons; this all happened in the eyes of militiamen, who acted just as patient observers.
According to a source of this website, the mass beating of residents of Chechnya and Ingushetia was organized by the local FSB with the aim to reduce the inflow to Adygea of Chechen and Ingush youngsters, able to tell the truth about events in their regions; and also with the aim to "protect from bad influence the local youth", who recently expose interest in Islam.
