Dagestan: criminal case on slave labour opened

A criminal case has been initiated in Dagestan against Radjab Radjabov, manager of the LLC "Evrostroykomplekt", on materials of the prosecutor's check and on attributes of using slave labour at a brick-works.

"Based on the materials of the prosecutor's check, held by the Caspian Inter-District Investigatory Division of the Investigatory Department for the Republic of Dagestan of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) of the Russian Federation, a criminal case was initiated against Radjab Radjabov, head of the LLC 'Evrostroykomplekt' on crime attributes stipulated by point 'a', Article 127.2 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Use of slave labour of two and more persons')," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Dagestan.

According to the Office, Mr Radjabov searched, with the help of his friends, homeless persons in the territory of the Russian Federation, invited them to work at his brick-works, promising good salary and proper conditions of life and work.

Then, after arrival of such persons, their ID documents were taken away; they were placed into rooms, where sanitary and hygienic norms were broken, and banned from leaving the factory territory. The workers were not paid their monthly salaries; they were just provided with some scanty foodstuffs.

"Besides, by the decision of the Caspian City Court of July 20, 2009, the work of the LLC 'Evrostroykomplekt' was suspended for the term of 30 days for breaching the sanitary-and-epidemiologic regulations of using premises, buildings and structures," said the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan.
