Abkhazia closes its border with Georgia on Inguri River

Abkhazia has closed its border with Georgia running on the Inguri River; now the crossing is only possible over the main Inguri bridge with a special permit. This was announced today in the course of another five-lateral meeting on prevention and investigation of Abkhazian-Georgian border incidents by Ruslan Kishmariya, head of the Abkhazian delegation and plenipotentiary envoy of Abkhazian President in the Gali District.

"The Georgian party kept complaining that at crossing the Georgian-Abkhazian border, residents of the Gali District are detained. In this context, we have stated that the state border on the Inguri River is closed, and the passage is possible only along the main Inguri bridge with presenting a special permit; all other crossings are illegal," Mr Kishmariya said in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent after the meeting.

He has also added that all those persons trying to cross the border outside the established points and without permits will be detained.
